1. Loyalty
Wenger has been in demand from top European clubs, such as Real Madrid and Barcelona, ever since his first title success in 1998. It is a measure of the man that he has never even come close to leaving north London, for bigger riches. Yes, Arsenal have helped his career just as much as he has helped the Gunners but the Emirates fans need to show the manager the same loyalty he has shown the club.



2. Made the club successful

It may be seven years Arsenal supporters will wait to see silverware back at the club but do they remember the lean periods before that. Wenger has won seven trophies in his time as boss and, with the possible exception of Herbert Chapman, the greatest manager in the history of the club. In these seven barren years Wenger has had to cope with foreign billionaires buying all the top players at extortionate prices but has still consistently entered the Champions League (and done well) and made three cup finals. Ask a Tottenham fan if they would take the success Wenger has brought to Arsenal





3. Great football

Great football may not win trophies but it helps on two levels. Firstly it entertains fans when they watch the games. Secondly rival clubs are jealous. Roman Abramovich is desperate to combine his trophies with attractive football at Chelsea. Arsenal have it in abundance. Even in Wenger’s early years he played attractive football. The days of ‘boring, boring Arsenal’ are long gone and the Frenchman deserves that credit





4. Nearly has a great team

Arsenal do have a few flaws but Wenger so nearly has it right. The Gunners lost their bottle in February but up to then they were on course for an unprecedented quadruple. Last season they had progressed from the season before. The record against the big four in England in 2009/10 was bettered the following year, with wins against Manchester United and Chelsea. Remember Arsenal did beat Barcelona at home and could have progressed if Robin Van Persie was not sent off and Nicklas Bendtner had a first touch. Manchester United never came that close





5. No David Dein

Since Dein has left the club, Arsenal have not won a trophy. The relationship between him and Wenger was so important to the Arsenal success in the late nineties and early noughties. If Wenger needed a player, Dein would get it sorted. If Wenger was not happy with something, Dein would fix it. When the vice-chairman left it put too much added responsibility onto Wenger’s shoulders. Until Ivan Gazidis came to the club this never changed. Gazidis is doing a good job but he does not have the same connections as Dein. But time has to be given to let them settle in.




6. Ability to bring through youngsters

Wenger has always been ahead of his time. When he arrived in 1996 he changed the shape of English football by introducing healthy diets and sports science. Sir Alex Ferguson realised this and changed his methods. Years later, Fergie was at it again copying Wenger’s style of buying youngsters and developing them. Now every team in the world places an emphasis on youth development





7. Made club sustainable

With Uefa’s fair play rules soon coming in, sustainability is key for every club. Once again Wenger was ahead of his time. Arsenal are one of the few clubs that actually make a profit and that is thanks to he Frenchman’s foresightedness. But it is not just the financial aspect that he has made sustainable. If Wenger was sacked tomorrow, his replacement would be able to call upon Premier League class players for the next 15 to 20 years, without dipping into a chequebook





8. Little financial backing

Due to the building of the magnificent Emirates stadium, it is obvious money has not been as free as at other clubs. The board said money was available but Wenger realised there was no value for the cash. But now, with Arsenal being debt free and in a strong financial position he can afford to spend that little extra. Time has now to be given for him to do this and judge him on these results before giving him the axe




9. Made global brand

Arsenal fans be honest: outside of Britain who would have heard of the club before Wenger took over. Even less people would associate them with being a great English side and this is what Wenger has achieved. The Frenchman may have been reluctant to go on overseas money-spinning tour (which he has since changed his mind over) but the global acknowledgement Arsenal now has can be traced back to Wenger. He has built a cult status around the club. People will travel from around the world to watch the Gunners and people will tune into the TVs to admire Arsenal’s style of play





10. Deserves time

With all that Wenger has given and produced for Arsenal he deserves the time to see his plans come to fruition. He has built the club into a successful franchise, maybe with no trophies at the moment – but neither does Liverpool. He has built a fantastic youthful side, with financial restrictions, and deserves the chance to lead this team to greatness.

Real Madrid have set their signts on 16-year-old Siena youth striker Souleymane Coulibaly who is proving to be a sensation at the Under-17 World Cup with the Ivory Coast.

Lazio hopeful of signing Panathinaikos' Djibril Cisse on three-year deal

Djibril Cisse - Panathinaikos (INTIME)

Lazio are looking to tie-down Panathinaikos striker Djibril Cisse to a three-year contract, according to RMC.

The Italian club are looking to bolster their attack to mount a challenge in Serie A next season, having already picked up German veteran Miroslav Klose earlier in the summer.

Cisse joined Panathinaikos in 2009 and has found the form which made him one of the most prolific strikers in France during the last decade.

However, with Panathinaikos looking to trim down their wage bill as a result of the financial crisis that is hitting Greece, the club will most likely have to cash in on the ex-Liverpool striker.

Lazio and Panathinaikos are seemingly already locked in discussions for Cisse, with RMC reporting the Italian side preparing a three-year contract with an annual salary of €1.7 million for the 29-year-old.

For those teams that are unhappy with their final position in La Liga, therefore, the summer transfer window is the ideal time to redress the balance, to address the team's needs, to sign the missing link. It's a time for fantasy football, for dream XIs and misty-eyed visions of what might be next season, but those in charge must keep in touch with reality, too. Whether it's shopping at bargain basement or in elite boutiques, the key is to improve and evolve - and to go after bigger objectives than before.

June, though, is already more than half over and while Real Madrid and Malaga have already brought in several new players, many teams, including champions Barcelona, has yet to recruit a single star for the next campaign.

That, however, could all change this week. With speculation spiraling and rumors rising, Goal.com looks at the five signings that could advance towards completion within the next seven days.

Real Madrid has already been proactive in the transfer market this summer, signing Nuri Sahin, Hamit Altintop and Jose Callejon. Do they need any of them? That's a good question and another good question is this one: do they need Fabio Coentrao?

Cynics point to the fact that the Benfica full-back shares the same agent as Madrid coach Jose Mourinho, as well as Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria. And then there's his position to take into account - he's a left-back. And Madrid already have a fine, and much-improved left-back in Marcelo.

But when did Madrid's transfer policy ever respect logic anyway? Mourinho's interest in the defender is real and a right-back role for the Portuguese could be in the Special One's mind. Whatever his thoughts are, Madrid look set to seal the signing this week, as reports in Portugal say a deal has been agreed for the 23-year-old, who is set to undergo a medical in the Spanish capital in the coming days.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, has welcomed the arrival of his countryman. "He is the best Portuguese player still playing in Portugal," he said. Don't worry Cristiano, there isn't anyone as good as you out there - not from Portugal anyway.

Remember when Joaquin was linked with Chelsea and Real Madrid? Now he's linked with Malaga. Nothing against Malaga, of course - the seasiders have come into some serious Qatari cash and having made a splash on Ruud van Nistelrooy, Jeremy Toulalan and Joris Mathijsen already this summer, the Costa del Sol outfit has now turned its attentions to the Valencia winger.

An initial bid of €4.5 is set to be turned down by Unai Emery's side, but the debt-ridden club aren't opposed to selling the winger and have an agreement with the player that he can leave for the right money. A higher offer from Manuel Pellegrini's side is likely to see Joaquin return to his native Andalusia, therefore, just in time to face the club where he made his name, Betis, who are back in the top flight. Isn't that a nice story?

Espanyol don't pay big money for players and that's likely to be the hold-up here. The Catalan club have reportedly offered €3 million for the AZ Alkmaar defender, but the Dutch side are said to holding out for €5 million. Somewhere in between probably reflects the real value of the Mexico defender, who has been a success since moving across the pond in 2008, and a deal is set to be struck this week.

Espanyol coach Mauricio Pochettino knows a thing or two about defending and Moreno will have a great teacher in his new boss. For Espanyol, there are plenty of pluses as well; Moreno is young (23), he's a good defender, he's already an experienced international and best of all, he wasn't one of the five Mexicans to test positively for clenbuterol recently.
