Italian giants AC Milan are keeping a close eye on Fernando Torres’ situation at Chelsea.
Sources in Italy confirm that the Rossoneri would dearly love to take the Spaniard to the San Siro, but are well aware that this would not be possible on a permanent basis, with Torres priced out of reach.
However, with the former Liverpool striker struggling to rediscover his best form at Stamford Bridge, Milan believe there may be an opportunity to take the 27-year-old on loan.
Milan have enjoyed similar such arrangements with Chelsea in the past, first taking Hernan Crespo on loan from Stamford Bridge when the Argentine failed to hit the heights expected of him in a blue shirt, and more recently snapping up Andriy Shevchenko on loan for the 2008/09 season.
The hope is that if Torres continues to struggle to show his best, Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas may be open to the idea of sending the Spain international to Milan for a morale-boosting stint.
The Rossoneri could even offer to send Alexandre Pato or Robinho the other way to smooth the deal.
Torres has yet to complete 90 minutes this season for Chelsea, finding himself substituted in the club’s first three games, while he was consigned to the bench for the Blues’ 2-1 win at Sunderland this weekend.
Should the Spaniard continue to misfire, Milan’s astonishing dream of taking the player to Serie A may move closer towards becoming a reality in time for the January transfer window.
