Diego Simeone is a big fan of the Spanish international and he has been a long-term target for the Spanish champions.
And according to the Daily Mail, he believes this could be the year he finally lands him now he faces stiff competition in the attacking midfield area at Arsenal.
The Gunners already have the likes of Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in their ranks, and have now added £30million signing Alexis Sanchez to that already impressive list.
Reports suggest Arsenal would demand at least £15million if they were to sell up, as he recently signed a new 12 month deal.
At 29, Simeone may feel that is a little pricey but will have money to invest in the squad after selling Diego Costa and Felipe Luis to Chelsea.
