5 BEST SCORERS IN THE EPL

Frank Lampard

At 33, Lampard still has his goal-scoring ability.
He has been one of Chelsea’s and the EPL’s most consistent midfielders.
Before last season, he had scored at least 20 goals in all competitions for five straight seasons.
That number dropped to 13 last year as he struggled with injuries and an inconsistent role as the club played around with formations after signing Fernando Torres.
This season, Lampard has scored 10 league goals in 22 matches. His role has shrunk under first-year Portuguese manager Andre Villas-Boas.
Unfortunately, because of his new role, Lampard’s future with Chelsea is up in the air. The club has struggled under AVB.
There is a strong possibility Lampard will leave Stamford Bridge this summer with a year remaining on his contract.

Luis Suarez

Playing in the Dutch league, Suarez scored 111 goals in 159 appearances for his club, Ajax.
In the 2009-2010 season alone, he scored 49 goals in 48 matches in all competitions.
Suarez moved to Anfield in January 2011.
The club was struggling when they brought Suarez on board, and he helped them to revive their season under manager Kenny Dalglish.
Suarez is only 25 and is a very clever and technical player. He is versatile and can be evasive due to his quickness.
In his first full season with Liverpool, Suarez has scored only six goals in 20 league matches. He did, however, serve an eight-match suspension for a racial incident involving Manchester United and French International defender Patrice Evra.

Clint Dempsey

In 2010-2011, Dempsey set the record for goals by an American in the EPL with 12 in all league matches.
Dempsey has twice netted a hat trick this season: once in the Football Association Cup against Charlton and once in Premier League action against Newcastle United.
The latter hat trick was scored in an impressive span of 20 minutes.
Dempsey has scored a career-best 16 goals in all competitions this season, surpassing his total of 13 last year.
In 26 EPL matches this season, Dempsey has scored 10 times, two short of the record for an American in the league he set last season.
He has scored 52 goals during his time with the club and has led Fulham to become a mid-table team in the Premier League.
Unfortunately for the Cottagers, it does not appear as if Dempsey will be at the club much longer. He has repeatedly stated his desire to regularly play in the Champions League, something that will not happen with Fulham.

Wayne Rooney

Last season, Rooney scored only 16 goals in 40 appearances he made in all competitions for Manchester United.
He scored the best goal of the 2010-2011 season.
Nani sent in a cross, which Rooney bicycle-kicked past a stunned Joe Hart.
His tally of only 16 goals can be attributed to the role he played with the club last year. With Javier Hernandez, “Chicharito”, playing the role of striker, Rooney played more of an offset forward, midfield distributor position.
This season, Rooney has scored the second-most goals in the Premier League. He has found the back of the net 17 times in 22 league appearances.
Rooney has taken on more of the offensive load this season for the Red Devils, as Chicharito has struggled with injuries.

Robin Van Persie

During an injury-plagued 2010-2011 season, Van Persie scored 18 goals in 25 games.
During that span, he set a record when he scored in nine consecutive away league matches.
This year, RVP has put the club on his back and has almost single-handedly kept the Gunners in the race for a chance to qualify for the Champions League.
Van Persie has netted 22 goals in 25 league appearances thus far this season.
The Dutch International scored one of the finest goals of this Premier League season in December when he volleyed an Alex Song ball past American goalkeeper Tim Howard.
